Media Evaluation 4

Question 4.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stage?

My media product firstly uses forms of the modern-day media technology by firstly the editing software available for me to use to produce our groups music video. I used Adobe Premiere Pro and Creative Cloud. Premiere Pro proved to work quick and easy. My skills from previous editing software, Final Cut Pro for example, were able to expand and develop. Another key element to construct our media products was using Adobe Photoshop, something we all used in our group. This was used for our ancillary texts. These were individual posters and digipak CD layouts for our created music artist, Vivid.

To construct our media texts, researching was pivotal. To research I used the likes of YouTube and Google to firstly watch real current music videos, then watch and analyse how they’re marketed through posters and CD covers and subsequently what type of music area we would be best suited to create an artist in. We chose Vivid to fit into the indie pop genre. Something the likes of Dua Lipa and Alice Wolf originated in. Both people crucial to our research, planning and construction. On YouTube as a group we watched videos from artist in this same genre to analyse their pace, star screen time, lip synching and overall performance as artists.

Question 3.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

From audience feedback I have personally learnt a lot. Firstly, the fact of it being so crucial in creating work such as a poster and music video. This feedback of opinions allowed both texts to develop, change and be more suited to our target genre and audience. Most of the audience in the rest of the class being in this demographic themselves so therefore extremely helpful.

For example, using feedback to adapt multiple things in our groups music video. As editor then the points resulting our videos first screening were mostly things I could achieve myself. One of these things was the pace of the editing and cuts. This was something I sped up, then secondly location changes regarding the "Bridge" - we re filmed and I included these new shots in the video.

Media Evaluation 1

Question 1.
In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge the forms and conventions of real media products?

My media texts firstly use current forms and conventions of real media products for a number of reasons. One of them being the fact that my group’s music video includes elements from real videos from artists. Hitting the first lyric was applied and also having a bridge in the music video. Hitting the first lyric is where the artist in the video is seen lip synching the first line(s) of the song. A bridge in a music video is when three quarters of the way through the setting, tone and the way it’s presented changes. In our music video, as editor myself, I made use that this happened. To do so, when the tone of the song changed three quarters of the way through I inserted clips of a whole new location, with completely different lighting to what it was earlier on in the video.
To develop real media text conventions in my own texts I included just two separate images on my digipak layout and with the rest used a background from one of those same images. I did this because the background in particular was spot on for what the artist represents and the type of genre she’ll be aiming to fit in. in contrast, I could have used separate images for all six different panels but instead decided to put an alternate view on the project. This element also makes the layout itself look more complete and makes the images chosen look as if they’re where they belong and not out of place.

To challenge current media texts, I have included multiple social media links within my ancillary poster task. This is something I believe challenges current conventions because music artists in the modern era are usually keen to include the bare minimal in their music videos, as a current trend, but this is something I thought Aaliyah A, a small time indie artist, releasing her first album wouldn’t be necessarily be interested in. instead, trying every trick in the ‘promoting book’ to get some extra publicity and fame. A poster therefore the perfect way to do this.

Poster Completed

This is my completed poster and I am happy with the outcome of such work. I believe it withholds multiple conventions of music artists and posters in the industry. Both traditional, for example making the artists face the main image, and also modern, having multiple social media links and addresses in the poster for fans.

Digipak Completed

This is my finished digipak template for our artist. From my previous draft, feedback has been vital for improvements ive made. For example I decided to include a background behind the whole template itself and then my main chosen Vivid image for the album twice on the CD pack. Additionally, I was advised to include a copyright report and logo of our chosen record label company.
